While founded in 2012, Esch Road Foods comes with a long history of award-winning specialty foods. In 1995, my wife, Kathy, and I founded Food For Thought on our organic farm adjacent to the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in northwest Michigan. We’re still at it.
Esch Road Foods is our newest line that represents what’s great about the Great Lakes. As this line unfolds, you’ll discover nothing but premium products that are all natural and made in small batches on our farm. No orange marmalade or mango chutney; if it doesn’t grow in the Great Lakes bioregion, you won’t find it here. We exist to celebrate the richness of the Great Lakes and give back. 1% of all sales is donated to Great Lakes conservation.
Once a lumbering port town of Aral, it flourished in the late 1800’s. It has a rich history of lumbering, agriculture, murders and pardons, love and broken hearts. In its final years Aral was taken over by the House of David, a communal, celibate religious group that stayed until the lumber ran out around 1911. Otter Creek no longer transports logs to the mill and the forest has since reclaimed the land. But if you explore the forests you can still see old fruit trees and the slab-wood planking along the edges of Otter Creek that were used by lumbermen to push logs down her shallow waters.
It’s a place near and dear to my heart; it’s home.
With kind regards,
Timothy Fitzgerald Young
